A Guide to Fashion Week SS 17.

So, Fashion Week is over for another season *sighs with relief* (but also with a little sadness). Fashion week always seems to have the best timing, I can get stuck in a rut with my style and get tired of the same trends, so as soon as Fashion Week arrives it’s always as if a light bulb flickers on above my head. I find myself suddenly on a roll, searching online for new looks and tearing my wardrobe apart. Looking through all the amazing collections (yes, every single show) I decided I wanted to create a diary of images. I sifted through each city, each designer, each collection, each ensemble, backstage too and picked the looks that I loved and was inspired by most. I thought it would be nice to look back at (plus a little more personal than flicking through Vogue) and hopefully for you all to get some inspiration and to implement that (even if it’s a beauty trend) into your Spring/Summer wardrobe.

Now, let’s get onto why you, reading this, are here and probably clicked the link in the first place…trends. I tried to not only look at specific garment trends but also cuts, shapes, silhouettes, fabrics, embellishments, colours, patterns, accessories etc.etc… I noticed a few repetitions and have done my research so here are 10 trends that I expect to be in stores for SS 17!

1. Bralettes
Cropping up (excuse the pun) at Fashion week. They were layered on top of shirts, Victoria Beckham styled them under suits and Alexander Wang experimented with wrap arounds.

2. Fuchsia
*Throws up a little* Think pink. Not pastel, nor dusty, not even bubblegum, BRIGHT PINK.
Topshop featured a fuchsia pointed stiletto, whilst Valentino brought it home with full capes and cropped trousers.

3. Deconstructed Shirts
Oversized at at Marques’Almeida, one shouldered at Victoria Beckham, chopped up and added extras (collars and sleeves) at Alexander Wang (wear it back to front if you have to).

4. 80’s Vibes
Scroll down to Gucci and need I say more. Oversized silhouettes, huge Arnold schwarzenegger inspired shoulders, sequinned spandex leggings, shiny lycra and neon sweaters.

5. Ballerina Tulle
Tulle will be everywhere next Spring, soft and feminine at Chloé while dark and vampy at Lanvin.

6. Sports Luxe
My favourite trend that seems to stick around each season, Yeezy paired tracksuits with heeled boots, while Gucci featured embellished baseball kits and Versace added their own sporty vibe with stripes on leather and backpacks.

7. Uneven Hemlines
Asymmetric, up, down, left, right (jungle skank?) handkerchiefs, erratic and offbeat lengths. Marni and Louis Vuitton were both victims of this trend.

8. Mini Bags
Yep, we’re downsizing again (bad news for my nan who likes to carry a spare kitchen sink). Valentino, Chloé and Louis Vuitton all featured the tiny matchbox handbag.
Fashion 1 – Practicality 0

9. Buckle up
Not one, not two but wear 3 at once, all layered, similar shades, different buckles just like Alberta Ferretti, Versace and Carven.

10. Earn your stripes
Vertical, horizontal, diagonal, whether applied to sheer lace, sequinned garments or crushed velvet. STRIPES. Nina Ricci, Mulberry, Fendi and Lanvin got it spot on (or should I say stripe on).
